Taking oil pressure from R53 oil filter housing cap?

Anyone done it?

I need to drill a hole in the oil filter cap to determine if the drainback valve is leaking, and figured I'd take oil pressure from there in the event it's not.

I thought I may have seen it once somewhere, but I can't find it right now.

I get what you're trying to do, but won't that interfere with removal/installation of the filter cap? The socket itself wouldn't sit right would it?

It's such a tricky install (with the pressure you have to apply when installing) I don't think I'd want any more difficulty added to it.

Frankly, I'd avoid doing it this way...
Sounds like a disaster in the making...
Be it from leaks, or the part failing when tourqued to tighten it or removing it...I cannot think how you could mount a sensor that would not get smashed or twisted during the install...
Guess if you have a spare cap to play with...could try it..be investigational... But not sure I would drive it...

Yea, I nixed that idea today and ordered a cravenspeed oil pressure adapter.

Now I just need to figure out how to determine if the drainback valve, or some other valve inside the housing is leaking.

I wish I had a part I could compare it to. It's quite difficult to check to see if the housing is draining back when if you open it to look it drains back!

Catching up, I remembered there is an adapter available for a few bucks that ties in to the sending unit. I was going to recommend this much more than drilling into the oil filter case.

The one I remember seeing I think was at Way Motor Works ...

OK... more than a few bucks... but something like this I think would be much better.

Motor on!
