I noticed a humming when I was running the A/C, it started few months ago, I knew the compressor was going to fail at some point.....and it did 3 days ago! It stopped working momentarily, then worked again, to finally make some grinding noises under the hood, stall the engine and temperature gauge went to the roof. All this happened while I was driving at a very low speed in a parking lot. I went to Costco, 40 minutes later I started the car, with the A/C off, and it's been running ever since. I found a thread here and a clip on youtube, I checked the clutch and it seems to be OK (continuity OK). So I think is the compressor.
Is there a place in Los Angeles where I can take the old compressor and rebuild it?

Given grinding noises and stalling the engine, I'd just go for a rebuilt one and turn in your core. I got mine on ebay and it's worked fine for years.
