04 Coopers w/ Getrag?

Are the 04 Coopers currently being shipped coming through with the Getrag 5-sp box? Or not until later in the year? Thanks.

It was my understanding that all Cooper S models in 04 came with the Getrag 6 speed transmission. Sorry to say that I don't know much about the Cooper model.

The Cooper is supposed to tranistion to the 5 speed Getrag. I think with the MY 2005 switch over, but I'm not 100% sure on that...

...and the S has always had a Getrag...

Correct. The NEW Getrag 5-speed will be in all 2005 base Coopers. It should be a huge improvement over the current unit. Getrag builds some awesome manual transmissions...

"Midland Gear, the BMW-owned firm that supplies the R65 gearbox for the MINI ONE and MINI Cooper, is to be wound up in June/July 2004, John Mortimer reports. The plan was for the site to stay operational until 2006, but a decision by MG Rover - which also takes a similar version of the R65 gearbox - to switch supply to a Getrag factory in France forced BMW's hand, bringing the closure forward.

...Until June/July, Midland Gear will continue to supply BMW's assembly plant at Oxford with it's version of the R65 gearbox containing a synchro pack. The first MINI to take the Getrag five-speed will be the MINI Cabriolet, which starts production in April 2004. At that point the MINI ONE and the Cooper will also switch to the Getrag five-speed gearbox."

does this mean it's possible some late 04's have a getrag. I've got a late april build '04. Any way to check? I'm betting it's still a Midlands, though, but I can look.
