AC pressure switch

My AC quit working at the end of the summer last year. Had a mechanic check it out a couple days ago and he said it's the pressure switch. I know the clutches go bad in these so before I spend the money on a unit, I want to try the cheaper option and change the pressure switch first. So my question is, can the switch be changed without having the freon removed, or do I have to have the system evacuated?

ANY AC work is going to require evacuating the system. Unless you have the vacuum/AC tools, I recommend having a shop do all AC work.

IF the AC system is opened up....the drier should be REPLACED...moisture..en just from ambient air is a MAJOR issue..both in efficiency and wear...that is one of the reasons WHY the system is vacuumed BEFORE refilling....leftover air also results(along with the mentioned moisture) can result is VERY poor performance.....

It’s seems like a bad design by BMW for not installing a schrader valve behind the pressure switch , like GM , Ford & Chrysler does ?
