The New Mini

So i recently Purchased a 2002 Mini Cooper off a lot before they sent it to auction for $2,100 it does have high miles 185,000 and some small issues 1 of which is the misfire on cylinder 3 i did the normal thing first did new plugs and wires and noticed that the #3 coil wasn't round on the tip one side was flat where it was sparking for so long by previous owner and had a lot of rust on it so i took some steel wool to it and cleaned it up and its running better just waiting for the new part to come in next week runs great most of the time just every so often it misfires like crazy on that #3 cylinder but smooths out after a few mins of driving just does it at idle at stop lights every so often. Also ordering new hatch hinges one is busted so buying a pair to just be on the safe side. The one thing I am not looking forward to is having to do the Passenger CV shaft the inner boot is ripped would it be better to just replace the whole shaft or just do the boot changes i don't know how long it has been ripped.

Much easier to just change a shaft. Go aftermarket like napa.

Your garage will convince you to change the whole shaft, its a bit easier for them. In your case, you might as well go that route as well, you dont know how long its been ripped. Are you doing it your self?

ive seen a few videos of changing it and im mechanically inclined just never done one on a manual before it seems like it just pulls out after dropping the lower ball joint removing the tie rod end and taking out the power steering fan and the one bracket with the 3 bolts right above it is there anything behind the dust cap i have to mess with or does it just pull out of the transmission the shop quoted me $285 for the job and it doesnt seem all that difficult at least the videos and forums i read dont make it sound that difficult as long as all the bolts and joints come free easy

Is very simple I'm sure you found some good videos on this topic, also check Pelican parts articles they may help you as well, it pulls out very easy once the carrier is off and the dust cap as well
