R50-Auto Trans Fluid Change.. Reprograming Computer???

I was told by the Dealer that upon completion of changing my ATF.. that a reprograming would be necessary.. I have read all the tech manuals about the ATF change and I can't find anything about this necessary actions..?? Does anyone know what they are talking about?? Is this a dealer scam?? They told me the reprograming might take up to 2 hours.. What computer takes that long to do anything today??

The Mini is 2003.. The dealership is the ONLY one that services BMW/Mini w/i 50 miles.. The do Jag too. The only thing I have been able to find is something about the Electronic Transmission Control.. and I have NO idea about anything more than that.. The only reason I decided to have the ATF changed.. One 97K and I have no idea.. I purchased it second.. what services were done before.. and in the cold it had a hard time shifting out of park .. that said.. I is the prudent thing to do. Just don't need to be bent over!

Well with the early year you have.. Im guessing you have the CVT auto transmission. Which may need to have some reprogramming done. Im sure its not 100% needed but it might help the CVT adjust to your driving styles and or is needed because on the new fluid change. But I really cant say anything more then that. Ive only worked on the 6speed automatics these MINIs currently use. I think your running a CVT and that's a total different breed of tranny..lol.. Good luck though!

mini service manual says that you are to reset the gear ratio adaptations after a CVT fluid change.
