Hi, have a 2002 R50 Cooper, and fancy fitting the S type fuel flap from a R53? I've read all the threads I can find re this, but they are either inconclusive or have dead links(because of age of thread I guess)!
Q. Can a R53 flap be retro fitted. I've spotted on on eBay that is even the same colour!! I've noticed companies selling what I assume are after market items to upgrade to the S filler, but they are far more expensive.
Just need to know if I can use a 2nd hand R53 item, or I need to pay out for a new upgrade unit???

Yes they can.

 

They NLA the old R50 to R53 Gas Cap kit. 51170403076 But we made a new kit that includes the same parts. not for the R52 Cooper.
