CVT's are very special indeed. Read the thead posted by vanwall. I brought my 04 CVT in to have it checked out and picked the service tech's brain.

He said the cvt's "learn" your driving habits. So avoid jerky "manual only" type driving unless you want it to program itself that way. You'll find there are many techniques to getting maximum use (and enjoyment) out of your CVT. I LOVE mine!

Automatic for MCS

The 2005 MCS will have the option for automatic transmission but not with a CVT. Sorry. That's according to the 2005 option list for the MCS at my dealer. Maybe next time.

Did your dealer mention whether it's going to be a run-of-the-mill slushbox or an SMG? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my CVT, but gimme a SMG over a CVT any day of the week!!! (Seriously doubt that it'll be an SMG though... )

JCW and CVT ?

I was curious if anyone knows if you can have the (JC) works installed on a cooper with an cvt transmission. I am not even sure if the works is available in the US yet, but I know they have it in GB (not sure if on any cvt's).

Can I hear more about your impressions of the Mazda3 vs. Mini CVT?

I've been seriously considering a MINI for a while, but part of that is the g.f. The g.f. is less of an issue now, and a slightly bigger car has its advantages. The Mazda3 looked like it might be a nice middle ground.

Mazda 3 is a nice car but the MINI will spank it in the twisties. Don't let the size of the MINI fool you, it is a very practical car in more ways than you can possibly think.

Resale value, cool factor, uniqueness, German engineering, handling are all in favor of the MINI.

Just for fun... try putting your cvt in manual mode (1st gear). Floor it and then before it redlines, pop the shifter back to drive. My wifes CVT really really moves when I do that compared to when I shift it to 2nd gear.

We have 25k on our 03 CVT with no problems! (although if I keep abusing the CVT we may start having problems )

I have 18k and barely notice any of the jerks and yo-yos anymore...they have smoothed out with time... I think it has been run in

Been modifying my car for a while now, but am looking towards the MTH chip which actually mods the CVT programming...

Try this...do what you mentioned...but when it gets to redline shift to D AND THEN BACK TO SD its even faster
