Also, just remember that crossing the ocean is a very perilous thing for vessels... boats of all kinds sink all the time. I would keep an eye on The Shipping News of The World, just in case.........

>>Yep, and you?

Yep... I grew up in the bay area and I still spend most of my time there, but I live in Tracy right now. I am trying to get together a group of us Bay Area folk for a late june or possibly July 4th run if you are interested in meeting some of your fellow Motorers.

I ordered mine in December 2002, and I avoided the entire wait pressure by scheduling a 3 week vacation to New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii in March. Therefore, the car was delivered to the dealer and prepped and when I got off the plane the dealer picked us up and took us to the dealership and we drove home in the new MINI, unfortunately it rained on the 3 hour drive to where I live. Other than that it worked out great. I knew my car was suppossed to hit the port outside of NY the day we flew out. It made it fun to see MINIs in New Zealand and Tahiti. In fact, we saw a mid 70s silver mini at Papeete that had 6 teenagers in it driving around the island while we were in our fashionable Kia. I almost decided to rent one in Maui, but I couldn't justify the extra 80 bucks a day when I would have mine so soon.

Hi JCampos,

I am in Sacramento and would be interested in a late June or July 4 rally. Send me an email when you get some info. Hopefully none of the cruel teasing and warnings of those smug people who already have their MINI's (you know who you are) will come true. We'll just have to out drive them as soon as ours arrive.

Cheers,

I ordered my Chili Red MCS the end of April and I have to wait till the second week of August. So how do I cope, I visit this web site at least 5 times a day, mini2.com the same and Michiganmini.com the same. Also there is an Indi Blue MCS around the corner from my house so if I need a fix I just drive by and say only a few more months!!!!

JCampos,
You should have bought your MINI from Classic MINI in Ohio with the rest of the Northern Calif (Bay Area) folks in the Ultimate Classic MINI Group Buy started by CMINIGO. They ordered theirs in February...March production cars...and 5 Nor Cal owners took delivery May 8th in Santa Clara. And, they all got $500 off MSRP as well. In all 14 MINIs came to CA on 2 Concours Transport enclosed carriers.

The problem with that is that CA has decided not to register cars that are bought out of state UNTIL you register it in the state you bought it from first. Im guessing because they are bitter that they dont get the salestax from the car. So that would mean that I would have to register it in Ohio first, and then again in CA.... no thanks. Ill wait the extra month.

>> There is nothing worse than a boat load of sea sick Minis, battered and bruised from encounters with bad weather.

Hey,
Maybe that is where the stumble comes from and why only some have it?
Seasick MINIs trying to get their land legs under them!
whatever

JCampos,
Someone is giving you bad info. It cost $25.50 for a Certificate of Title from Ohio for the cars. You don't pay ANY sales tax to Ohio. CA still gets their revenue in the form of Use Tax. And they all got 20% off on all their dealer installed accessories.
Perhaps you're referring to the new initiative in Oregon that is now looking to catch CA buyers registering their cars in Oregon to avoid use tax and CA registration fees.
You do have to get a smog certificate, even though the car is legal in all 50 states.

Unless you bought from East Bay in Pleasanton, you paid over MSRP, which CA charges Sales Tax for and for which you pay VLF every year you own the car on the extra over MSRP

maybe i do have bad info. Are you one of the guys who purchased from Ohio but live in the bay area? I bought mine from MINI of Mountain View and yes I did pay over $2500 MSRP. East Bay MINI had a 11-12 month wait whereas Mountain View was 3 months (turned into 3.5-4). Im not too concerened about the $2500, nor do I regret not flying out to Ohio to pick up my MINI.. although I bet that was quite a convoy of MINIs heading from Ohio back to CA. I will have mine soon enough, and we should all get together for a July 4th run. Anyone know any good spots?

Hey JCampos-
I am in the bay area as well. I ordered mine from TX, no mark-up. I missed the boat on the classic group buy otherwise I'd have gone with them. The problem I had with the mark up wasn't the inital cost, just the extra money you pay on yearly registration fees ect... You can still reg. in CA as my hero chief_charlie said. That man is full of great info and so nice, classic should give him a free mini for all the nice stuff he says about them and all the referals he gives.

But, you get to drive down the road and pick up your mini, I have to go all the way to TX.
