Ecu Reset

Hi all I have an 03 MCS does anyone know why these cars go off and the require a reset.
My own car just gets really almost disconnected from the accelerator every 3000 miles or so , a reset makes it feel alive responsive to a light prod again.
I wondered if it had anything to do with the fact that I use my car for work all the time so fuel economy on customers trips is paramount seen as high as 47 mpg
On the returns journeys usually behave but cruise at higher speeds.
This effect is very similar to when I was a mechanic in the 1980s and cars required new spark plugs every 6000 miles
New plugs always made a car feel alive so I wondered if these long service intervals played a part ???
Thanks broncoupe
