R50/53 Rear Seat Delete with a twist?
Rear Seat Delete with a twist?
So i'm realizing more and more each day how much of a waste my rear seats are. I always see threads about people doing their own rear seat delete and it always catches my interest and now im seriously considering building my own just as a fun relatively low cost project.
However, this morning I had an idea for an RSD that I've never seen done in a mini. Rather than building just a plywood (or whatever) floor over the "floor" of the car, what if I also built a shelf type thing that went from the rear hatch to the back of the front seats but was at the height of the rear window sills? Picture taking the rear shelf thing that hangs from the hatch and extend it all the way to the front, essentially creating a large covered trunk. Id also do a vertical board right behind the front seats to close off that "trunk" area
I hope that makes sense, at least it does to me, maybe you guys have some thoughts on this project and/or any reasons why this may or may not work.

Sounds kinda like one of the rear options that the Honda crx had....
Had a 89...was actually pretty useful!
No flatfloor, like dog folks love, but great for stashing tools, bottles of oil, cleaning supplies, etc.

that's what im thinking haha... my dog hates the car, and I also want to make the top shelf somewhat removable for vet trips. Now im also thinking of the shelf lifting when I open the rear hatch just like the current rear shelf does, maybe ill just attach two stronger pieces of wire in the same style as the current shelf, that might be enough lift just to reach all the way to the front of the trunk space.
Also, time to google CRX hatches/trunks/rear seats/lack thereof.
