R50/53 sustained high rpms
My MC is now broken in and has about 2200 miles on it. I got the CVT and I love it. I was thinking though, that I spend almost all of the time in the SD gate and I have a tendancy to rev the engine very high. Now this wouldn't be a problem with a manual because the engine only stays at peak rpms for a brief time before the driver shifts it. But with the CVT it stays there indefinately as I accelerate. What is the consensus on the durability of the engine if I keep it at the top of the powerband for long periods of time? Any ideas anyone? Should I just learn to drive slower
or what?
Chris
btw, my MC is bone stock for now. Thanks alot everyone.

Most engineers at engine building concerns measure the life of an engine relative to the amount of fuel that goes through it. In other words, the more fuel you consume, the shorter your engine life will be...for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the accelerated wear on lines, rings and bearings associated with high RPM's.....in today's engines that may mean you will probably need new rings and a valve job, perhaps even a complete rebuild at 100K Miles. If you are kind to your motor, it will probably do 150K without breaking a sweat.....IF you are NICE to it I said....
