>> I love everything about my car, but I've never been able to get rid of the boot rattle. I've tried everything from replacing the latch, replacng my m7 wing mounts, electrical tape, etc. After trying everything I can think of, I just decided that my rattle is one of my car's personality traits. I've obsessed over it long enough, so now on to bigger and better things<g>.

>>Now don't give up yet,lay a small rag near the latch and close on it, if it works you can use it to wipe dust out of hatch opening too

It's a shame that some dealerships have technicians who are not up to snuff. In this instance I'd guess that this is your beggest problem. Mine has a couple of really excellent ones and since they tackled the boot rattle problem over a year ago, it hasn't returned.

I'm having the rear latch replaced with a new one. I hope that will correct the problem.

Funny story, the service guy told me they attempted to fix the latch earlier with a bright silver latch. That didn't work so they made the black one. He told me they color coded them so they could easily tell if the MINI owner had the latest latch. It may take a couple of tries but MINI eventually finds solutions to all problems. Okay maybe several tries with the yo-yoing MINIs.

I feel for the techs. My tech was extremely smart. It must be difficult for him to have to deal with all the misguided "fixes" that MINI throws at them. They have to apply the latest patch even though they know it probably won't work. The tech I used gave me his bussiness card. When I get the Works kit I plan on giving him a call.
