R50/53 Courtesy Light Mod
Courtesy Light Mod
I bought 2 "puddle" lights w/Mini logo. I decided not to mount them as "puddle" light on the door but as front courtesy lights. They light up only when the doors or hatch are open. The lights cost $12/pair on ebay (includes a hole saw). I would recommend Gen4 or 5 versions because the they are smaller in size. I fabricated a mount bracket using a 3" x 1" - 1/16 sheet metal strap with a hole at one end (created with the hole saw). I used double sided tape to mount the bracket under the dash. On the 1st Gen MSC, I tapped into courtesy light power connector that is conveniently located inches from the mount point.
I think this mod looks pretty good. My daughter now wants this mod in her VW Beetle.

Installation Summary
I installed this mod on a '04 MSC other models may vary slightly
Pic #1
View of the passenger bracket with the mounted puddle lamp. I used 1/16 sheet metal so that it is bendable after the final mount. This allows you to re-position and aim the logo location. The passenger side bracket should have a bend as shown to facilitate the mounting. I used a straight bracket and a bit shorter on the driver side.
Pic #2
This is where I mounted the passenger side bracket assembly. Dead center in the foot well, next to the to courtesy lamp. I used double sided tape but plan to drill and tap a screw for a more permanent mount
Pic #3
This this courtesy light where you can tap in for the power source. The brown w/black stripe wire is the ground. Connect the black lamp lead to the ground wire.
FYI, I tried to solder the lamp leads to the courtesy bulb holder but the solder would not stick.
Fairly straight and easy installation. It really looks cool when the lamps fade on/off.
Enjoy

I see many on eBay for $15 to $20. The difference seems to be where they're made, with those from Hong Kong being least expensive.
Outside of eBay, $50 to $80 for ONE logo puddle light. Makes these you found seem like a steal!
Thanks again for photos and all. Really looks nice!
Edit: this is the link I found, is it the vendor OP used?
