R50/53 is this a shared experience?
i've had my MCS for about 14 months now and there is still something that i keep doing that i can't adjust to at all. does anyone else find themselves in these cars stopping at a red light realizing that they can't see the light at all? the car is so short in front that i find myself always stopping under traffic lights and having to lean forward and check to see when it turns green. anyone else or am i a freak? :???:
This has nothing to do with the height of the car. It has to do with the distance you are sitting from the windshield and the fact that the windshield is almost verticle. I had the same problem in my Jeep Wrangler. Check out some other cars and see how much closer the driver's head is to the windshield than in the MINI, especially at the top of the windshield.

If you have a sunroof, maybe you can pull up closer to the light and look up, Used to this from my wife's Del Sol convertible. But like donaldh said, its the angle of the windshield and your distance from it. Everytime I get into one of my other cars I notice how much closer the windshield and rear view mirror is to my head.

I know of one particularly tall fellow who uses this little sticker at the top edge of his windshield to get a view of traffic lights. I, though not tall by any means (5'10"
, could definitely use one as well. I'll try to find out what it is and where he got it.

Completely. It applies with a little slightly soapy water; no adhesive involved. Peels right off if you want; though I put mine on six months ago and haven't touched it since.
With a little finger nail scraping, the product labeling comes off. Then, placing high on the inside of the windshield, it is hardly noticeable.

Interesting product. $12.50 and $2.95 for shipping.
"a wide-angle Fresnel lens made from flexible, optical-grade plastic. It sticks to the inside of the windshield, it's unobtrusive --less than two inches high and seven inches wide-- and it gives you a look at the traffic light without any neck stretching"

never had a problem seeing a traffic light out the windshield.
What you are doing is pulling up too far. A pro driver never
pulls up to the line, but stays back about 20 ft. or so. That way,
if you get rear-ended, your not catapulted into the intersection
to get slammed by another loser
If that doesn't work, try lowering your seat and sliding it back.
It makes your car feel bigger too

Hey, that fisheye thing is kind of neat...and would be even neater (on the MINI) if it were tinted so that it could make up for the pathetic "sun visors" that don't extend nearly enough to block any actual glare.
Yellow's right about not pulling so far up to the light so that you could get pushed into the intersection. I think about this often since my greatest fear in the MINI is of getting hit from behind by SUV drivers who "don't see" me stopped at a light, etc. Plus, I too find that lights are invisible if I pull all the way up to the line.

I use the lightinsight also. It works terrific. Takes a little getting used to, though. You will get wird reflections from streetlights sometimes. Also, it can produce a nasty glare when the sun is low. Still, it's benefits far outweigh the negative. Get one, you won't regret it.
you mean you have to stop for red lights?????(kidding of course)I too have complained about this since day one,and was glad fot the lightinsight info, just ordered mine.Good topic, good info, thanks all (New Windshield still intact (off topic,sorry)...............peace
