New Mini Coupe Concept bringing back some R53 styling!
I am an R53 guy all the way in terms of styling. But the new Mini Coupe Concept is the first new Mini that I actually really like. Looking at it more closely, I realized part of the reason I like it is because I think they are going back to some of the R53 styling.
First of all, I love the traditional grill, and I'm glad they are bringing it back. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I never understood why so many R53 owners change their traditional grill for black plastic grills. Not that it looks bad or anything, but the traditional grill really gives it a more classic look, IMO.
Second, is it just me, or did they find a way to flatten the hood a little to reduce the bloated look of the R56 front? It's not as flat as the R53, but it looks somewhere in between.
Also, I'm glad they are using the optional JCW front bumper, as the standard bumper is just way too fussy (I hope whoever designed it was fired). Hopefully it won't even be an option anymore.
Also it helps that the concept sits a heck of a lot lower than the actual car. And FWIW, I still hate the hard top of the Mini-coupe -- it looks awkward. But with the convertible, problem solved
Anyway, not sure where this post belongs as it involves 1st gen and 2nd gen, but just thought I'd share / end rant.
