R50/53 Had fun with subaru's in my Cooper
Went on a advance drivers course at the Zwartkops racetrack (www.zwartkops.co.za) organised by the Subaru club of South africa today. Started the day of on the skidpan where we got instructed on a various techniques of car control, oversteer, understeer, emergency lane chances, etc. Finished the skidpan exercises of with a nice and tight auto-x on the skidpan, everyone got two laps, first lap I got 43secs, setting up the fastest time around the auto-x track out of 15-odd subaru's, 2nd time around I got 41sec, but got beaten by a WRX who got a 40sec run. So ended up 2nd place out of 15 subaru's nothing like a nice tight auto-x track to make a mini really shine.
After the auto-x we moved on to track teqniques, corner entry exit, being smooth around the track, braking etc. All in all a very fun day, and I am VERY impressed by my one month old Mini Cooper for doing so well

The problem with the subaru drivers taking part was they gave too much power on the auto-x track and kept sliding and hitting over cones on the slippery skidpan.
I just took it nice and smooth.
