Coil pack bolts vibrated out.

Well I was tinkering around under the hood today and was shocked to find that the bolts holding the coil pack to the valve cover had shaken so loose that it was completely detached and one of the bolts is missing. All the rubber grommets are also gone. I had everything torqued down sadly there is a lonesome bolt resting alongside the road.

First time I ever heard of this.....

Have seen some tighten them down too much pulling the brass collets from the valve cover though....

I was completely bamboozled when I saw it. I need to find me some new grommets as well as a bolt to replace the one lost. The weird thing is that I had the hood open just recently and there was no indication that they were loose. Maybe I just didn't notice then.

With the NGK coil pack I was not able to use the OEM rubber rings on the top of the CP. I ended up using a stack of black rubber washers from a hardware store with ss flat washer same diameter. Been a year now no issues.

If you don't have a MINI dealer near you, it's an option.

Use blue loctite on the bolt when you replace.

Negative....belay that.

Using loc-tite you will probably strip the brass collet from the valve cover when you try to remove them next time...valve covers are not cheap. If the bottom rubber rings under the coil pack are in good shape, there should not be any vibrations to shake the bolts loose. I am guessing yours were probably just not tightened down enough first time....

Just tighten normally do not over tighten....don't over complicate this.

I was planning on avoiding the blue loctite for that exact reason. I'm going to get new grommets tomorrow and will be tightening them down a little more this one. Is there a torque spec for the four bolts?
