I am curious. My Hondas got over 150, 000 miles on them. What can one expect

with a Cooper? Any thoughts?

Who knows!

But I suspect the Cooper will fare much better than the S.

These engines (Both Cooper and MCS) if properly maintained and taken care of should see at least 150K to 200K easily. The TRITEC engines are far less complicated than the DOHC V-TEC Honda powerplants and require far less maintance stops in between. I have had a total of 8 Honda/Acura products, so I know those cars fairly well.

Almost any modern engine will reach 100,000 miles with little or no problems. If it has been cared for and not thrashed it should reach 150,000 with only the normal maintainence for any engine with that many miles on it. All engines will need more maintainence once the miles start to pile up. Both Mercedes and Kia and everything in between will eventually need a water pump or a thermostat or something if driven long enough. The key is how the engine is cared for.

Yeah I think the engine is the least of your concerns! I had 2 VW GTI's 1986 and 1987---they were 2nd hand---given to me after 60,000 miles and basically anything and everything died! From the radiator exploding on me and shooting hot coolant inside the car, to complete replacements of various items needing thousands and thousands of dollars.

My next and first new car was an Acura Intregra 1991, and that lasted for 170,000 miles, and in that time only had minor maintenance done. That had a 3 year or 30,000 mile warranty, which for me expired in my first year due to mileage!

I have no doubt my Cooper engine now at 16,000 miles in 7 months will survive over 100,000 + miles, but I fear that the rest of the car won't!

My leather wrapped MFSW is coming apart--peeling and coming off in shreds, on my 2nd windshield, my boot rattle was fixed with some electrical tape, and with horror stories of trannies dying at 20,000 miles, and warped rotors, I've got some real concerns, and it ain't about the engine.

My car only looks fast, but it's completely stock, so my dealer can't blame any failures on my "vinyl" mods.
