don't bad mouth it. the Mustang was designed to be cheap for a reason. it was the original bang-for-your-buck car. hey, i owned a mustang for many years and i never had a single problem with it, other than wear and tear at 80,000 miles (tires and brakes).

This cooper's falling apart on me, the interior molding on the door, the windshield's been replaced, the whole car squeeks and creeks - i've already had work done on my brakes, and i don't even drive this car hard. It's only at 20,000 miles.

I put the mustang through hell though. when i traded my mustang in, it was still as new as the day i drove it off the lot. if you ask me, my mini's build quality is worse than my mustang's.

Well, my experience with Fords has been less than stellar, so let's just leave it at that, shall we?

Sorry to hear that your '76 Pinto was a P.O.S.

I owned a GT convert for 10 years and it always ran, stopped, and performed almost flawlessly. The paint was the best and the fit wasn't perfect but for the price it was pretty good.

Thanks for the advice guys. After thinking about it I don't think I want to go with the trade in. RWD is a big deal for me (as the MINI is the only front driver I would ever even consider) but in the end it just isn't worth it.

The throw-your-head-against-the-restraint acceleration would be great, especially to put some rice boys and eurotrash in their place off the line with some mean detroit iron, but in the end the MINI would provide more consistent entertainment.

The g's the MINI puts on in the corners are probably comporable those the 'stang puts on in acceleration anyway

Oh, and to those of you who badmouthed the mustang, have you ever driven a muscle car? Have you ever heard what a high displacement V-8 sounds like?
My friend has a Camaro Z28, and boy let me tell you - that engine makes my heart sing.

If it was 1967 I'd say go for it.

The problem is not the high liter V8 or the sounds from it (I am a sucker for Detroit pushrods). The problem is the car. Ford has admitedly done a much better job than GM in keeping their pony car "interesting" and up to date than the competing F-bodies from GM, now dead (If you want a modern day Pony car from GM, your only option now is the $35K Aussie made '04 Pontiac GTO, now you are talkin' nice iron all around).

The current Mustang is an outdated and mediocre car. Sorry if you can't accept that. All this thing has going for it is raw straight line power and cheap admission price. Otherwise, underneath it is still a 1970's car...time to put it to rest.

I have seen the all new 2005 Mustang and that is one NICE looking car (Resembles the late 1960's Fastback model) and I am sure now that sweet sounding V8 engine will now have a car and chassis that will do it enough justice for years to come.
