Haunted Mini

Had a very weird thing happen with my 04 S yesterday.

I drove to where I was working for the day, temp was around 12 degrees F.
so my windows were up.

Parked at a metered space unloaded my gear and headed out. Came back around noon and fed the meter. I didn't notice anything unusual.

Finished up my day, came back to the car, popped open the hatch tossed my gear in. Started to unlock the drivers side door with the key since my auto lock doesn't work. Just then I notice the window is down about 4 inches, the passenger window is down the same and my sun roof is open about 4 inches.

F---ing weird, I was sure everything would be missing. Nope. All fine.

I know the windows were closed when I left, to darn cold to be open. I can't think of anything I did to open everything the same amount.

Anybody had this happen? Is my car messing with my head? Is this the beginning of other weird stuff?

Your car has a feature when you press and hold the unlock button for 2 or more seconds it rolls down the windows and opens the sunroof. Mainly used for hot weather to allow the hot air to escape before entering the car. I find that if I press my unlock button in rapid succession to get everything unlocked it starts this program. Nothing to worry about just a minor quirk of owning a Mini.

My friends always think I have a team of trained Gerbils running a tight rope act when I do this. I just explain nope that is just how cool MINI is.

I had to buy hand books for two of my fleet off e-bay. Best money I spent.

Try specialist wreckers too - often books are left in the car. My wrecker pulls them and keeps them in the office.

Same thing happened to me when I first got my Mini. I just wish there was a way to put the windows back up!

Though you are probably referring to the remote control button, you can use the key in the lock to activate the convenience closing feature (as mentioned in the Owners Manual).

Also, the convenience opening feature can be activated/deactivated by the dealer. My 2003 has it active, but my wife's 2004 does not. Neither one has a sunroof, so it is less of an issue.

A cheap TEMPORARY fix for R50 body cars with windows not going down -Thump the door at about the 10-11 o'clock position on the big oval trim ring while flicking the switch to the down position. (Dealer trick and it works!!)

I think there is a module that you can get from FES Auto that allows you to press and hold the lock button on the remote to close the windows and sunroof.

EDIT: The module is from outmotoring.com. It is supposed to be compatible with the Ian Cull Circuit as well.

LOL I love the idea of it being haunted. "The spirit wanted to escape but also wanted options- passenger window, driver's window...or sunroof?"

I've noticed something strange too- if I lock my car and then unlock the boot (usually like at the airport to get my luggage out) sometime while I'm gone the other doors unlock as well. Kind of creeped me out. I have to unlock the doors again and lock them to prevent this from happening. Anyone else experience that?
