Not all flood cars are the same as I have repaired a number of them. But to be safe just stay away unless you know the specific conditions that caused the problem and you can do your own electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repairs.

Today I bought a clean 2004 VW GTI 1.8l turbo 5 speed for $775.00 as a Sandy flood car. There are 000s of Sandy flood cars for sale on auctions like Copart.

You can watch http://www.massmotoringclub.com/
Many members are in NH and ME too...and folks often post their cars here...they are often well matained, and "known" by the group.
The site is not as active as it once was....but folks still frequent it.

Just missed this one,,,,higher miles...but good car!!
Hey guys, Time to let this great little machine go as we just bought a house and a pickup for yard work.

2005 Mini Cooper S - JCW Upgraded - incl Winter Tires $9000

I am not interesting in parting anything out.

Bought it with 81k miles and had the 90k service performed, supercharger service, and front bushings replaced. Have had it nicely upgraded since owning it - even has the now very difficult to find official Mini JCW ecu tune. It is an excellent upgraded base from which to further mod or have fun with suspension and stance.

Crash Free Car

* 122k miles (owned since 81k and drove 60 round trip miles to work, highway)
* 6 speed manual
* Leatherette Seats
* Heated Seats
* Multi-Function Steering wheel
* Auto A/C
* Board Computer
* Dynamic Stability Control
* Fog lights
* Spoiler
* 16" Alloy Wheels
* 8 speaker Harmon Kardon Sound System, single CD player, AUX In jack

*** Included in the sale are 4x Michelin Ice-X winter tires and a full size spare tire on a steel rim.

Many upgrades! It can nicely get up and go.

* 17% Supercharger pulley
* JCW Airbox
* JCW 380cc fuel injectors
* JCW ecu tune
* NGK 1-step colder spark plugs
* NGK spark plug wires
* 1-Ball exhaust resonator delete
* Helix Short Shifter
* PIAA Yellow Driving Lights with separate switch
* AUX In jack - plug in your iPod!
* Mini All Weather Floor Mats

Fun Add Ons

* Light Insight
* 'Actual Size' vinyl sticker
* 'Inflate Here' vinyl sticker
* Debadged - cooper s removed from rear hatchback
* Brake calipers painted red
* 5-Ball Billiard shifter (car comes with original shifter - easy replacement)
* Mini Over Sized Cup Holder
* Under the hood headlight panel eye stickers
* Blacked Out grill, hood scoop, side mirror caps, hatch handle and wheels.

In this last year (2012) the following has been completed.

* Continental Ultra High Performance ALL WEATHER Tires - excellent rubber!
* Oil Filter Housing
* Brakes (rotors and pads)
* Have only used synthetic oil changed every 7500 miles
* Have always used quality high octane gasoline

His rationalization sounds questionable in the extreme.
+1 = What he said

They run the report right away and everything looks clean. But when you go to trade in or sell at a later date you get screwed.

I would not buy a car from a dealer without a carfax. Carfaxes don't catch everything, but the absence of one, especially since they can be cheap for dealers, is red flag. His explanation for not needing one is even shadier. For his asking price, you can get a similarly specced MCS with a clear history, but it may take awhile. Keep an eye on eBay motors, autotrader, craigslist, and the local classifieds. Cast a wide net and be patient. There are tons of fairly priced Minis out there, so don't rush into a potentially bad deal.

The MCS you recently linked doesn't look bad. The price is fair and it it well-equipped. That's a much better deal than the first one.

I just bought an '02 R50 from a dealer with a new exhaust and all new wheels for 5.5k. This is all after I had mini of Boston take a look at it. I would keep looking around, unless you need a car NOW, you will certainly find a great deal.

I recently drove my Mini through water, and shortly after, the engine light came on. The car still runs with no apparent signs of damage. Can anyone shed light as to why the engine light came on and did I cause some damage that will begin to get progressively worse?

Have the code read by autozone or something similar to see what the issue is.
