R50/53 Anyone ever try to fit a 3 spoke steering wheel from an R56?

Anyone ever try to fit a 3 spoke steering wheel from an R56?

Just curious as to whether or not it would work...they seem to be a lot more readily available and cheaper...

OR is it just 2002-2006 that are compatible.

Pretty sure it's not a direct swap. I know if you've got the earlier 2-spoke in your MINI you can swap it out to the later R53 3-spoke with a fair bit of effort, but my understanding is that the bolt holes are a different size. Plus- and somebody correct me on this- aren't the airbag units non-interchangeable as well?

Best bet IMHO is to scout around for a deal on an R53 JCW leather wheel. Then, install it and drive happy knowing you've got the best wheel out there.
