R50/53 One less MINI in the world....
But finding that out by the Guilty party's insurer would put me into a coma, ESPECIALLY after hitting two vehicles.
Based on the pictures, it would be a real shame to not buy that car back and put it back on the road... What a crime....
Is it possible that is some "bare-minimum coverage limit' requirement that someone (in this case the 14-year old, or her Mom/Dad) didnt bother to go above? That sounds much more like one of the PD limits available to me (I also am a 30-year State Farm customer) when I was quoted coverage for my 30 year old, tiny, Honda 350 motorcycle... Does not sound like REASONABLE coverage for any kind of a car at all, and marginally so for a motorcycle... but I'm not smart enough to know much about insurance.

Yes, insureds can certainly pick a higher liability coverage but a lot of people will just pick the lowest legal limit to same money on their premiums.
So shame on the owner of the other vehicle for not having more liability coverage but bigger shame on the State for allowing it and for the Geico rep who sold it !
Thanks VERY much for being a loyal State Farm policyholder !
One other note: If anyone here carries very low liability limits or even higher ones like 50/100/50, beware !
Because when, like in this case, the party who is not at fault has to use their Underinsured Motorist coverage becasue the at-fault driver doesn't have enough liability coverage.... guess who the underinsured carrier is going to go after for their money. That's right, the at-fault driver.
Me... I carry 100/300/100 and a PLUP. That's a Personal Liability Umbrella Policy. It covers me up to $1 Million for any liability exposure I have, whether it's in my car, somebody falls down the stairs at my house, I bake a batch of brownies that kills 2 people (haha), etc.

That's wild the damage doesn't look that awful...but I'm no expert. Although I've had my fair share of accidents. One of the craziest accidents we've had was when a parked Uhaul hit our parked jeep. Yeah crazy...we had just gotten home from a trip and then 5 minutes later we heard a crash and there was a Uhaul smashed into our jeep which was pushed into another car.
I hope everything works out!

The car that hit us was a 2012 Nissan Sentra, brand new, so I don't know how he got such a low PD ( the owner is a 31 year old, the girl is 17.... Kinda awkward really), but as you said, there are soooo many accidents in this state, and to allow for such a minimum, it should be deemed illegal.
And my parents had State farm since before I was born. They had it for home insurance, life insurance, and eventually automotive insurance. I have auto and life and so does my wife with them, not too shabby in the end :D

Well... that's a lot of years and a lot of State Farm polices ! Thanks to your parents and to you !!
Better not start any rear-end chain-reaction accidents involving multiple vehicles either. I recently had one of those that took place on the interstate. Four of the five vehicles are total losses, damages are going to be somewhere around $90-100,000 and the limit on the at-fault driver's policy is only $25,000. Ruh-roh !
Get a lawyer!!!!!!
You'd be surprised who they can suck money out of. If not the guy that wrecked you, then your own insurance company. My lawyer got me a rather nice settlement from my own insurance company when I was rear-ended by an uninsured motorist. It's kind of disgusting and slimy, but the insurance companies sweat when a lawyer writes that first threatening letter.

I assure you, we do not. If you got a good settlement, you would have gotten the same without the attorney and you would have kept the entire amount and not given the attorney a good chunk.
If you're responsible for someone's damages and don't have enough coverage, yes, their Underinsured coverage will handle it. But guess who their insurance company is coming after to reimbursement. You.
So State Farm sent their guy here, and he spent two hours going over both the vehicles, and looks like the MINI is more then okay! Showed me the paper work, and damages only came out to about $6,000....Geico said $10,700. He said he doesn't know where the hell he got his estimates, he's been in this business for a long time, and knew right away it was going to be fine.
He said the big thing these cheap insurance companies are doing right now are just buying up these high demand cars that have expensive parts that would make them money after they get done recycling the parts then the check they wrote out to me, thus why the buy back is so high ( I kinda figured that) and also they are sending a lot of our cars overseas for parts, not suprising since I worked for a company that would cut Hino and Fuso box trucks in half, shove them in a container, ship them overseas, and make more money like that then attempting to resell it here. They just wield a piece of C-frame where they cut the truck, and off they go.
So once again people, if you think you're saving on cheap insurance, remember, they aren't a charity, their in business to make money while staying cheap, one way or another.

So you are going to keep the MINi? Maybe this is the opportunity to upgrade some suspension components.
Would love to follow this along and also maybe help turn a wrench here and there (live in NYC) work in jersey. Where in jersey are you?
Good luck and keep us up to date.

Geico is the same company who routinely offers injured parties $1000 for their injury claim and asks them to sign a release form immediately after the accident. Tricky.
Glad we (State Farm) took care of you and your claim, Noir. Thanks for trusting us with your insurance needs. Hope you stay with us a longgggg time !

Well i know this gives me time to finally finish building her custom fog light setup for her car, and my father just brought home some graphics for the car, and I have a spare set in silver, I might throw them up on here for sale, they're the Porsche Carerra style in Ebay for like 50 bucks. and also the black JCW grille I held off until the graphics and fog lights were ready to all go on together. When I'm done, she'll really be Noir.
