Aren't we talking about "stock" cars here? Pull the rear seat out of the 2nd gen car......and it would still be lighter than your R53. Right?

Hey havok, If someone is going to post which is better turbo or supercharger in this forum, look up at the top of the page this is an R50/53 forum not the R56 page, how do you think I'm going to answer...

Now if this same ? was asked on the R56 page, everyone over there would stomp on me and say blah blah turbo is always better.
Just my .2 cents..

I have driven many R56's stock, lightly modified, all the way to full suspension and the full 9 yards, and IMO I hate em, just doesn't feel like a MINI should be especially coming from a R53!

So ya didn't to be an a**hole by saying I hate em, just my opinion!

Are you high? The first gen rear seats absolutely do not weigh 55lbs. I know, I've taken them out. I'd be surprised if the whole assembly (both seatbacks, seat bottom, head rests) topped 20-25lbs.

True stock for stock MAYBE, all depends on sunroof, wheel choice, tire choice, ie. runflats so on and so forth...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I've had by rear seats out....and there is no way they weighted 55lbs.

So now were arguing that a 21 pound difference makes the turbo better...

Don't understand you guys!

I like the supercharger better, IMO!

Rear seat delete vendors say 36lbs, users on mini2 who weighed theirs report 27.5lbs. Either way, not close to 55lbs.

So if you weighted them yourself.....what did they weigh? What did the scale say?

Once again you don't have to agree with me, I just don't like the turbo!

Not a great scale but until someone shows me a picture of their real leather, not pleather seats weighing 25 pounds I'll agree.

My junkie scale said in between 40 and 50 pounds, very ROUGH estimate...

Your scale read between 40 and 50? Really? Never seen a scale that had that on the the readout

If I had the time, I would pull out my "real leather" seats and weight them. Maybe I will tomorrow.

It's just foam, leather, and some wire....no way it's 55lbs.

It's all good fun...I'm not trying to get everyone wound up either

From what I have seen..it sounds like they both have their pros and cons. I'm sure both are fun to drive....but I don't think I'll be getting rid of my JCW R53 any time soon

I think a JCW R53 is the only thing I'd be ready to trade in my modded R50 for.

Nope! I imagine they would be terrible in the snow... I run a set of konig rush wheels with Falken Espia EPZ's in the winter, they are fantastic in all kinds of horrible winter conditions.

Ok thanks Havoc, reason I asked I'm going up to the snow this winter and can't afford a dedicated set of winter only tires, talked to several people out here in Cali and they both said light snow they're fine, but when it gets heavy than that's a different story...

Personally I'd never run a set of high performance summer tires in snow at all... however, for what it's worth, Yokohama claims that this compound is "unaffected by cold temperatures," so in theory they should be fine when it's cold. I imagine you could get around in some light stuff if you were very careful, but I prefer the ability to really hoon around in the snow with confidence.

My comment had nothing to do with what you said or really anything related to the R56 vs. R53 debate. However, I think they are just two different ways of accomplishing the same thing similar to the stupid Republican vs. Democrat debate.
