R50/53 MINI Roadside Assistance Question
I am about to put on my new wheels and non runflats, and wondered if anyone knows if I will get screwed if I get a flat and need to call roadside assistance to tow my car. Would they hassle me saying it was an aftermarket mod, and therefore I am not entitled to a free tow :???:

Ryan - you have an excellent point there.
YOU SEE THIS MINI! YOU'VE SPOOKED THIS GUY SO BADLY THAT HE'S AFRAID HE'S GOING TO LOSE HIS WARRANTY AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE IF HE DOESN'T BUY HIS GD TIRES FROM YOU!
Personally, I always have a AAA card. The "get out of jail free" card paid for itself once and they have me for life. Don't depend on the manufacturer.
And be sure to throw a couple of inflatable spares in the boot.

A lot of people are going that route. I'm personally not happy with the runflats, and as soon as they die, will be replacing them with some "normal" tires.
I'll buy a fifth one to keep at home.. tow the car home and i'll change it there.

I agree (even though I don't have the car yet). I'm pretty sure that I'll let the runflats live their life and then purchase some tyres of my choice.
In my opinion, the best way to avoid tyre damage in the first place is to regularly check the air pressure and periodically check the alignment (especially if you enjoy spirited driving). Underinflation can lead to tread separation, overinflation can make the tyre more susceptible to impact damage, misalignment can cause unsafe handling, and each will contribute to uneven tread wear and a shortened tyre lifespan. I used to think that everyone knew this, but recent conversations with family/friends have eroded my faith in humanity's tyre safety knowledge.
My plan (when I no longer have runflats) is to keep a plug kit and a small air compressor in the boot. If I got a puncture, it would be a pretty quick roadside repair to be back on the road. Something more serious like a bent rim from a road hazard will be unlikely, but that's what AAA and wireless phones are for.
Just my $.02
Cheers,
Mike
Note: I suggest that since the trunk is a boot and the hood is a bonnet, the tire should be referred to as a tyre.

Roadside Assistance/ MINI USA wasn't a big help when i had runflat promblems on a road trip a year ago
i had to do my own leg work to find a new tire, get it & have it mounted (paid though the nose)
BTW: I'm keeping my AAA

Got a MINI-spare in the boot of my S since I no longer have runflats (Can't say enough about how much better the ride is since I ditched them). If I don't want the spare taking up space I carry my compressor and a can of fix-a-flat.
