Were you talking on your cell-phone??

It definitely sounds like water, but I just want to verify the cell thing too.

Great to hear that MINIUSA is shelling out the bucks to pay for your loaner/rental car. Sooner or later MINI will have to add either a rental car allowance (Like most other car companies) or free loaners for overnight warranty repairs.

Have you heard from the dealer? What was the final diagnosis? How long will you be out of a car??

They are actually giving me the service manager's personal car since they don't give allowance for rental cars! Lizzie-I was on my cell phone right before that happened-think it's a conincidence or the cause??!! Yikes! They weren't even able to fit her into the garage to look at tonight so I guess I'll have to hold my breath until tomorrow. Good news (if there is any) is that they will also fix my ashtry while its in there (I dropped it and broke off a hinge!)

Is your cell phone a NOKIA?

During a rainstorm the this past weekend, my windshield wipers wouldn't work when I turned the car on. After about a minute, they started to work but then the climate control wouldn't work. When I got home, hubby took the car and everything worked O.K. I have 3000 miles on my car also. Keep us updated as to what the dealer says. Hope your mini is O.K.

>>Oh so sad! We are having a MINI reunion with the dealership this Sunday (we are driving together to Seven Springs.) Oh how I hope she is better by then!

So sad to read all of this... I think I can speak for everyone on the board when I say we feel your pain.

We sure hope you can make it on Sunday! It's the first reunion I've been able to go to, so I'm hoping for a good turn out (and decent weather!).

BTW, I'll be curious to know how well P&W treats you. I see you already got a loaner from the service manager. (Is it a MINI or a Bimmer?)

I had an early Cooper #8 and drove through a monsoon shortly after in Fort Lauderdale w/o a problem. I drove my S yesterday through a similar downpour in St. Petersburg w/o a problem. We have mentioned your cellphone and a broken ash tray..... Could it have been the result of second hand smoke?

Lmini, Sorry you had a draught all summer, I hope you didn't sit in it and get a "smaller is better" stiff neck.
BTW, we had a drought here in So. Cal.

Drove my MCS during the last two hurricanes we had here (Ft Walton Beach, FL) last month and had no problems at all. Water was almost 1 1/2 foot deep on some streets I was on.

2Minis-No worries. I quit smoking last year and wouldn't let a cigarette anywhere NEAR Holly! I keep my change for the tollbooth in the ashtray cup and I took it out last week to "reload" and dropped it on the floor and cracked one of the hinges (oops!!) I was on a NOKIA phone...hmmm...should I be worried about my phone interfering with my MINI's computer system? Well, to update where we are right now: the dealership drove down a MINI loaner for me (silver with black bonnet stripes and a black and white checkerboard roof.) They are going to look at Holly tomorrow and will let me know how long she's be O.O.C. Hopefully she'll be good as new by Sunday!

Glad to hear you quit last year. That explains the concern about crashing and almost dying.... . A day at a time....

I just got off the phone with the dealership. Apparently she had a faulty "instrament cluster." They ordered a whole new instrament cluster and it should be in tomorrow. Anyone know exactely what that is??!! I asked what caused it and he said it was just a faulty part. Any ideas from you folks who are more car-tecchie than I am what an instrament cluter does??
In the meantime I feel like I'm cheating on Holly by driving another MINI! I'll let you know when she is home safe and sound and good as new. Thanks for asking!

Hmmm strange diagnosis.

The instrument cluster is basically your entire dashboard! Ask them directly about the BCM (Body Control Module) to see if it got wet. I am not so sure that your problem involves yanking out the dashboard and put a new one....BIG TIME WORK!!!

If the dealer does not do this right, you can expect to get rattles, buzzes, etc galore. If I were you I would get the service manage ron the phone.....this just doesn't sound right to me.

Generally, that's the circuit board that sits behind your dashboard instruments (odo, speedo, tach, etc.). In older cars, it was just that ... a printed circuit board .. and if it got damaged somehow the effect would be dead instruments and/or the wackiness you had. I'd think that a modern car like a MINI would not just have a single board. But anyway, good that they located the problem, and that you'll be back on the road soon!
