PS Fan Shield / OEM Ducting / Skid Plate

After reading someone's post on the GD Fan going out, I realized my early R53 doesn't have the duct/shroud setup of the newer/convertible R53.

Is the fan shield worth it from outmotoring as it is the cheapest option for the PS fan protection or should i go with the skid plate or just buy the OEM ducting solution?

I felt more comfortable with the ducting. It snugs right up to the fan allowing very little of anything in. I just didn't trust the look of the screen style cover. It only takes one tiny granule to stick that fan up and the stakes are high. I thought I had read that some people think this fan is the prime suspect in some of the car fires out there. It fails, your pump burns the fluid and surrounding hoses/wiring and eventually the entire car. Not a good thought. Then there's the other thread about overheating caused by PS fan failure which turns to circuit failure which turns to radiator fan failure...sheesh. I've got to quit talking.

I almost forgot. When I received my ducting and new splash guard it did not come with all the right fasteners. Had to do some follow up at the dealership for a couple screws and clips. I also had to move one of the fastener holes on the splash guard about an inch. Easy to do with a drill.

Did you buy everything from the dealer? Or did you get your ducting online? Ive just bought an 04 S and this along with strut tower re-enforcement plates are my 1st 2 planned mods

To be honest I can't remember which company I bought it from. I know it was not the dealer. You should be able to come up with a part number on realoem.com.

Perhaps an auto-crosser will speak up? Hello? Auto-crossers? You out there?

Like Khurley, this ducting and an M7 strut brace, which includes the plates, were my first two mods.
