R50/53 Installing R56 JCW shift knob on R53?

Installing R56 JCW shift **** on R53?
I happen to come across an R56 shift **** for a great price. However, I own an R53 and they aren't quite compatible. Has anyone found a way to rig these up to work? I've got some creative ideas that I think will work but has anyone else come across this problem? Thanks.
