The new MCS, a POS? Wow. 'Never heard that before. 'Not saying it's not true. 'Just never heard that before. Let us know what you find out. I just bought an '06 MCS. Awesome little demon. 'Just had it for a month or so. But, it's tons o' fun so far. 'Hopefully no reliability issues.

I have both an R53 and R56, they both have their own quirks, but they are equally well built. No major issues with either except clutch stuff which was covered under warranty. I like my turbo and my wife LOVES her supercharger. Only car I would trade mine for is a GP, and I may just do that soon!

You're asking this forum for advice on whether you should sell you car because this same forum says it is a POS? Do you not see the irony here?

I'd drive more and read forums less.

I think both cars are fine and modable... I would say just enjoy motoring. Your mileage will vary on what sorts of issues you can have.

2006 MCSa

I just flipped my 2006 MCSa for a 2012 Prius! At just about 60k my tranny started to slip in 4th gear and pulled a code for '4th gear wrong ratio' did several drain and fills with some Amsoil Synthetic ATF oil and it didn't get much better. Followed that by a few computer reset's and it got better for about a week or two and then again as the tranny got warm gears started slipping. So I went ahead and removed all the mods that I had time for; auto-up chip, better skid plate, CAI, and my rota slipstreams. Didn't bother with NICE rack of 4 extra driving lights and the 15% pulley, Plugs, Belt, and one ball exhaust mod. Washed the car and cleaned out the interior. I was hoping to get $8k on the trade-in, knowing that it would be wholesaled, and knowing that tops would probably be $7500 I got $7700.

Lowest quote I got for repairing/replacing my tranny was $8640; Dealer cost was $10,800. With a little more than $5k on the loan still due that makes NO sense. I got out before I had to take it in the pants. Just know that the trannys are weak in mini coopers and it will cost a fortune to replace. I now know that the CVT's are a bit weaker than the sticks but hey BMW/Mini doesn't stand behind their products at all once you have gone out of warranty. I do have to say that they took care of MANY electrical issues and other minor engine issues while in warranty. Never again will I buy another Mini Cooper or BMW branded car!
