R50/53 Headlight Washer Cap
Headlight Washer Cap
Hey guys,
So Here is the deal:
I was driving down the road in my town, and have to drive through an unavoidable construction zone.. Long story short, a rogue rock came flying at my mini and nailed the Headlight Washer Cap spot on. There is no damage to the light itself or the headlight ring-- just the cap, go figure, on the driver side.
I had taken the passenger side cap off to see if any damage had been done to the washer (fist time I ever have taken a look at the mechanism) and I noticed that the little pin that holds the washer system to the cap had broken off, and of course, with my luck, the passenger side had broken off because of my tinkering with it, but that's nothing that superglue couldn't fix.
To make a long story short, I have called the dealer nearest me for just that one pin, and they wanted to make me buy the whole system for $111.99. My headlight washers work just fine, so I see no reason to buy a new one. But they mentioned to me that the pin is not sold as a separate part because it is supposed to be all one piece, although it is just glued on.
So I am wondering if anybody has any just laying around they would like to get rid of or where to even get this piece?
I know the chances are very low, but I figured I would ask my fellow motorers before the dreaded dealer. I am sorry that I have no pictures, but if you cannot understand what I am talking about, there is one thread that has a nice picture of the mechanism without the pin.
Thanks for any advice

$25 sounds a lot better to me than $112

Again though, thank you!
Yep, you will have to buy a new washer nozzle. I had the same issue and ended up replacing both on my MINI recently. They are about 70 a pop...

They are pretty easy to install as well.

But thank you for the input..looks as if I am biting the bullet on this one..
I took an RTV screw on cap, snipped out the center part and safety wired that to the washer cap, then pressed it in to the washer nozzle. Not very elegant, but it does press in to the hole. Have not tried to see how the spray nozzle works yet, have not had the car out in the rain lately. This is an annoying item!
