R50/53 Bird Strikes
You know the way rocks just seem to find their way to the windscreen? Well the same thing has begun to happen with birds and my MCS. Yesterday just running errands around town I had 5 near misses with our feathered friends - 2 doves, a starling, a pigeon and a hawk. All of them were close enough that I ducked and hit the brakes. The hawk flew across at 90 degrees from left to right at eye level and missed the windscreen by mere inches. It was an awesome sight, but really got my attention. As a former Navy pilot I'm use to sucking up an occassional bird, but I've never seen it this bad in a car before.

Maybe they're trying to get back at you for the ones you took out.
j/k
It's the SUVs, Trucks that a lot of us are having trouble with and dodging. But I must say, for the first little while of driving my MCS, I came short of hitting several rodents running across my path.
Better luck in the future with the winged-ones.
Cheers,

Better get "Buzzard Bars" like they used in Carerra Panamericana!
Seriously, I've had some near misses lately, something that hasn't happened in a few years. I thought I was the only one. Ha! I think the more vertical windshield of the MINI may look different to birds than other car's do. Our Vanagon had the same "attraction" to our feathered friends. Hmmmm.

Two bird anecdotes here:
When I was a kid, we were up in the Adirondacks, driving home late at night. Out of nowhere an owl with a wing span as wide as the car swooped down. It's talons just tapped the windshield as it flew over. Startling!
Another time when I was in college I was driving my Chevette to visit my girlfriend in New Hampshire. On the highway, a bird flew out in front of me, and I didn't see it come out the other side. When I got there, it was wedged between the bumper and the grille. I had to poke it out with a stick.

Years ago, one morning on my way to high school (also in a Chevette) I had a bird fly in through my drivers side window and smack me in the temple. I almost crashed. As I struggled to figure out what happened and regain control of the car, I looked down and in my lap was a small sparrow. He also seemed to be trying to figure out what just happened, but apparently he was not seriously hurt. I slowed to a stop, opened the door, and he flew away.
I also had a bumble bee do the same thing a few years later.
I tend to drive with my windows up now.
