Strange Temp Issues
Hey everyone, I have a 06 JCW with 117,000+ miles on it. I chose to post this here as opposed to the JCW thread because I dont think it is a JCW part that is causing the issue. Whenever I idle, the engine/oil temp light will spike up to hot, and then as soon as I move again it will go back down to normal. Did a bunch of highway driving and as long as I was moving it never once moved from the normal position. But as soon as I stop for a length of time say a min or more, it climbs back up. I am thinking maybe a faulty sensor.. not sure where to start looking. Any help would be appreciated!

Cooling for the oil is just a radiator coolant/oil heat exchanger loop on the back side of the motor near the oil filter...
I am assuming you must have an aftermarket guages (even with the chrono pack, the oil temp sensor has been elusive).
Assuming the oil temp is spiking when idleing, it sounds like the coolant flow is limited...either due to pump wear or some other restriction...has the cooling sysyem been serviceed in the last couple years (it does NOT use longlife coolant) or ever had a water pump replaced? It could be very worn.
since you have not mentioned any odd sounds, i hope the water pump/ SC gears are ok....but usually manifests itself with coolant temps spiking first.

Low coolant level/air in system around coolant temp sensor. Find leak, fix leak, top up cooling system, and burp. Don't let that cylinder head warp or crack.
I've also seen water pump drives failing produce similar symptoms as water pump can't circulate coolant fast enough at idle.
