Need Quick HELP & Answer on Clutch Slave & Release Arm/Fork ???
To preface, I've search here and everywhere for hours before posting this... I hate bothering people for an easy answer. Anyway:
This morning, the clutch pedal dropped to the floor (and stayed there) in my '04 MC and I had it towed home. My first thought (after a bit of reasearch) was a failed Slave Cylinder. Tonight I pulled and the Slave Cylinder and it was indeed leaking pretty heavily.
Upon further inspection, I noted the the clutch release arm/fork/lever seems to be pushed in (closer to the passenger side of the vehicle) and possibly not returning to compress the Slave Cylinder rod.
When I reinstalled the old Slave unit, it only compressed the rod (inside the boot) about 1/4" ~ I expected that the clutch release lever would have pushed it backs towards the Slave at least in inch or more.
Is this indicating a BIG clutch issues? Does anybody know what is the normal amount of travel for the slave rod/clutch lever? I assume that the release lever did not return, and then cause the slave to over-extend and damage the seal, thus causing the leak & failure of the slave.
Is there anything that would cause the clutch lever to not return to push against the pressure of the slave rod? If so, I assume there is no easy fix.
Quick help is greatly appreciated! I have the new slave coming tomorrow, but it may be a lost cause. If so, I'll have a super clean 2004 Pure Silver MC up for sale here in Michigan... for cheap! I'm not doing the clutch in this car... I love it to death, but I'm too busy.
Thanks guys!
