It's got the JCW kit....JCW interior, JCW cover on the intercooler, JCW tag on the cylinder head, JCW exhaust.....

Guess I just expected more. At least now I know that nothing is wrong with it. Maybe I need to swap the 11% JCW pulley for a 17% pulley.

Want some wheel spin get rid if the 25 lb wheels they named the s-lites and also the run flat tires that weigh more as well. As fir the throttle response a sprint booster will fix that people love them or hate them. As for me one of my fav mods for accelaration. Those 2 should make it alot quicker. Of course a 15% or 17% pulley will really get you more low end power. Hope this helped! congrats I ended up with an 03 90,000 miles myself. Very pleased at 125000 miles. Enjoy

Oh ya I would deffinately make sure your getting full boost the bypass valve as you said can fail

yeah what makes you think its a JCW ? i dont see one JCW badge in those pictures, also the JCW has an 11% pulley. The flywheel is also VERY heavy so its revs slow lowdown which makes it very street able around town. also if you want it to break loose... just give it the old clutch tap .. mine fry's my tires like you wouldnt belive in first... and 2nd.. and a nice chirp in 3rd

Like I said...it's got the JCW intercooler cover, JCW tunning tag on the valve cover, JCW exhaust, JCW intake, and JCW two-tone leather interior....so I'm assuming that it's a JCW.

How could I find out 100% for sure?

You might can go to your local MINI dealership, they can run the VIN number and also scan the key, this might tell you something. Lots of people bought and installed the "bolt-on" bits without doing the cylinder head.

Your "JCW two-tone leather interior" is exactly the same as the leather interior in my non-JCW MCS.

I thought that the two-tone leather was a JCW thing..... I learn something new every day

Another little item that frequently shuts performance down is the 1st toggle switch to the right of the drivers window switch. If it's labeled "DSC" you won't be able to "light 'em up" or bang a gear or go hard through a corner without power going away for a couple of seconds. The first time it happened to me in my"05 MCS I'd had the car only a couple of days and was trying to go through one of my favorite turns on the way home from work and I thought the car had stalled. I took it in to the dealer and was informed it was the DSC doing it's job. Now I rarely leave it on except in bad weather. :-)

Well...after some measuring, I also found out that although it's got the JCW exhaust, JCW IC cover, and JCW Tuning Kit badge on the valve cover....it's got the stock (non JCW) pulley on the supercharger.

So I guess my next order of business is order one of the Way 17% pulley kits for it and see how that wakes it up

Just a reminder/correction
the S has never has a midlands.....has ALWAYS been a 6 speed....gearing was changed for better acceleration in the 2005+ S models....

The midlands is only on the just a cooper (5 speed)...some late model (not sure of year change got a 5 speed from the same maker as the s, but were 2006+ gen1 cabrio's I think...
on pre2005 jcw cars, they were rated for 200 hp, 2005+were 210...earlier jcw could be upgraded with a package ....jcw cai, jcw injectors, and jcw tune (different than the 200).
All jcw always got a coated SC, all 2005+ S cars got the same coated sc , and gained a few hp, and revised gearing made the 2005+ S a faster, more fun to drive car.

It sounds like you're missing the big thing - the new cylinder head. Without this and without the pulley, the rest is probably worth a couple hp at best. Performance-wise, you've essentially got a stock MCS.

I will have to get the Kit# off of the JCW tag on the motor and see if I can look it up....maybe a dealer can tell me what it's got on it? The pulley on it looks stock, but I guess I need to measure it and see if the diameter shows it to be stock, or the 11% JCW pulley.

Well, I own a R-53 Mini (S, 2003 like yours) and I have to say it feels a little lazy at the moment it starts running. I have heard it is normal but this situation improves when you drive the car at 3500-4000 r.p.m. Then, it seems to gain a lot of power and its performance is much more agile.
