R50/53 reset oil change reminder

the system can be very quirky wrt the timing of the button pushes here so don't be surprized if it does not 'take' the first time (or 5 times) you try it.
It DOES work . . . eventually
Also you may see the system reset to 15,000 or 12,000 or ... the system toggles 'tween an oil service, a service one and a service two but not in that order!

Just reset mine today. Thanks for the link, and to everyone who posts DIYs. What did we do before internet message boards? (Struggled, or took it to a mechanic, that's what!)
Note: position 1 is the very first notch you feel when you turn your key. I passed it up a few times before I figured out what I was doing wrong. Also, my interval shows 15,500 so don't be alarmed if it's not exactly 15K.

When to reset indicator on low mileage oil changes
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a related question and need a little advice.
I only drive 7,000-9,000 miles/year, so I change my oil once yearly. Last year, my service indicator was counting down for my "second" oil service, but had a lot of miles left, so I did not reset it after my first non-dealer oil change.
It is now time for my yearly oil change, and my service indicator is down to about 2,500 miles until my "second" oil service. I don't want to get another oil change in 2,500 miles, assuming that the indicator will tick down on par with the miles I drive if I don't reset it. However, those 2,500 miles might take a while to run out, since the indicator seems to have been hovering around that number for a few hundred miles now.
Should I ignore the indicator for my oil changes and just use it as a guide for addressing the other maintenance items associated with the oil services and inspections? Or should I reset it after this oil change and forget about those 2,500 miles? What would you do?

I'd reset it and forget about the 2,500 miles. The computer can be a useful tool, but it is not the last word in maintenance schedules. The other inspections consist mainly of 'checks' of the car's mechanicals.
