Mini Trailer

I'm considering manufacturing a mini trailer similar to the sawed off at the door post version of the actual car. It may be slightly longer for added room and painted to match the vehicle color. The shell would be fiberglass with honey comb or polyurethane core added to the shell, so it would be light and strong. I see the max towing capacity of the mini is around 1000lbs.

My partner hand makes vintage Shelby Cobra replacement hoods and interior trim parts and that are bar none the best available and at a price that can't be beat. The fiber glass hood is a perfect match inside and out and when recieved is ready for final finish, barring any fender or chassi issues.

This would not be a production line manufactured trailer but a quality product finished to match the vehicle. Price depending on options such as removeable hard top, interior tie downs, type of trailer suspension, frame style and additional paint schemes.

Please reply to this post with items or options you would like to see and or any experience, good or bad you've had with trailers.

I don't own a Mini S, yet, as I'm still researching the best first generation year model to purchase. Off topic a bit, I see they all have about the same issues but the fix for the problems are there so a Mini is definitely on the way.

Thanks,
Bruce

Gee, you could at least tell me it's a bad idea.

I suspect you'll get more responses now that most of us are back from the Dragon Also - this may get more responses in the 'First Gear' forum.

I'd be interested depending on cost. My use for a trailer is infrequent, so I'm not interested in dropping a ton of $$ for one. However, I like the idea of the trailer matching my MINI

Yep, most of the Dragon attendees will be getting home and unpacked now, so you may get some responses.
There is or was a company selling MINI trailers, I've seen them and think they are pretty cool. However, when I'm using a trailer with my MINI I tend to carry some oversized stuff so usually use an open type trailer, or just a cargo tray for smaller loads. The MINI trailers were out of my budget for practicality reasons. This is what I pull for track days or long trips.

Good luck, though, can't wait to see what you come up with.

Annette

No I understand the cost issue. I'm there myself. A quality mold would be pretty labor intense and take alot of preparation and study to make.

Sounds like a great idea but would be very expensive. I have an 03 S with modified curt hitch and it pulls my WR250F Yamaha around on the three rail motorcycle trailer like its not even there. When I take it to the track its tough to fit everything in the car and I'd love to be able to have a lightweight enclosed trailer that would hold all my spare parts, tools, gas can, folding chairs, ice chest, workbentch and gear. Making it look like an extension of the car would be awesome. British racing green with white stripes!

I have seen such matching trailers on the back of CJ/Wranglers and on the back of Prowlers, and always thought they looked rather neat. Especially when they have matching wheels (which means they also have full size tires and not those typical mini-tires used on small trailers).

However, I have to agree, that I would assume doing it "right" would make them very expensive.
