R50/53 Replacing shocks and struts. Should I do bushings too?
Replacing shocks and struts. Should I do bushings too?
I will be replacing the shicks on my 2002 Cooper S shortly and am wondering if I should take the opportunity to have bushings replaced at the same time.
Car has roughly 100K km (63k miles) and is a year-long daily driver.
Also, are urethane bushings really worth the xtra $?
Thanks

Probably not a bad idea, since someone will already be "in the neighborhood".
The urethane bushings are a matter of taste.... they are considerably stiffer than stock and your ride will be affected. If you (and potential passengers) can handle the bone-jarring ride, go for it.

Interesting you post this today. Just helped my mechanic remove a 02 clutch today, need to drop the subframe to do it, the control arm bushings were completely toast, as were the upper and lower motor mounts. This was on a car with only 60k miles. If I were you I would replace all the bushings, motor mounts, ball joints including the tie rods. Get a good aligment and you will be amazed
PS, dont waste your time on OEM bushings, go Powerflex Thread
