R50/53 Bending R50 Shifter

Bending R50 Shifter
I'd like to modify the original 5speed shifter to be closer to the driver and back a few inches. Is this a reasonably easy modification?

I'd would look at Craven Speed's Adjustable Shift Lever.
I think it would do what you want.
