R50/53 will the ECU reset?
will the ECU reset?
I went on a 3000 mile trip running mostly 80 MPH. On the way home my engine light came on and my OBC-II said p2097 (basically too rich)
Now the dealership acknowledges there's a recall on the O2 sensors, but if that isn't the problem he is charging me $180 for the diagnostic.
I've read the ECU can reset itself after a month or so of driving instead of having the adaption values reset with the GT-1 diagnostic machine. Is this true?
I've debated buying this GT-1, looks like I could get one up and running for $600 or so from ebay. Its better than giving $180 away.
I'd like to know what to do, I'm a little unsure. I'm pretty poor if it matters.

you can get the r5/emx diagnostic tool for $120...i got it, but apparently i have a problem, my OBD does not communicate, no diagnostic tool worked on mine. but you'll be fine...i got it because dealers are grimmy like that...check r5/emx its a cheap solution, and reliable, i read a lot of reviews before i buy it, i wish i could give u a direct review...
If I didn't have a OBD reader and was in the need .. I would get a ScanGauge. it is a scanner . can reset . AND it can be mounted and used as 4 gauges of YOUR choice.
OBD reader and reset.
12 different gauges and others that are programable
A trip computer
Transferable to any OBD vehicle
from their site 169 ... have seen them on ebay for 120 ...

the tool from autoengenuity looks promising, the ones the rest you guys have mentioned won't reset adaption values. You can get a $19 scanner off amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product that will scan / reset engine light.
got some thinking to do, I want it to just reset itself by driving. Then I worry it is a faulty o2 sensor too.
the one from autoengenuity looks easier than having to find a certain laptop for a gt-1, I could just use my netbook. and the price may be a little cheaper for the package.
thanks for the input, I think I'm going to drive for a month to see if it resets, then decide from there.

what happens if the dealer says "ok i';ll fix it" and they fix something different irrelevant cuz its cheaper and they give it back to you...i personally do not trust my dealer, which is the reason why i got the little scanner...i think its good to know beforehand, and be able to check it later too...check whats wrong take it to dealer have him fixed, and then check if he really fixed it...i hope theres not many who have their OO busted by the dealer whenever something happens to the car...
