I believe after 1,500 miles is a safe way to go.

I agree with la_boy. It is probably alright to use cruise and go above 50 after the first 500, but reving and driving with WOT might be advisable only after 1500.

Technically, according to the manual break-in is considered anything below 4,000 RMP's and 95 MPH, so you can definitely go above 50 MPH, it's just the RPM's I think you are worreid about...

But yeah, I agree, 1,500 miles is a good bet...

acording to the manual the break in period for my MCS was 1200 miles without reving it over 4500 rpm or going over 95mph

That's what I read in the manual - for the first 1250 miles, stay below 4500 rpm and 95 mph. And absolutely no full throttle - although most engine builders will tell you that low-rpm full throttle bursts are actually HELPFUL in seating the piston rings. FWIW, 1250 miles isn't much of a break-in period. Wait until you hit 5K or even 10K miles, MAN will that motor scream!!!

I think one of the most important practices during break-in is to vary rpm as often as possible (i.e. extended periods at the same rpm isn't so good, but isn't so bad either). I built a motor for my bmw 2002 and broke it in with some full throttle bursts after about 100 miles, kept rpms all over the place, even made it past redline a few times before 500 miles. It's holding up quite well and makes disgusting power...
