Left center vent removal?

Miniacs,

Anyone take apart their A/C vent? In the manual it says to remove the beauty ring, which I have done, then to "release air vent retaining clips." (for those with the Bentley Service manual it's page 640-12/13)

The one I want out is more like picture min64022. In the picture it looks like the "clips" just need to be pressed in one direction or another. I have tried both to no avail and assume there is a trick.

Can you imagine I did not get a call back from my local dealer about it..

Any takers?

Thanks and as always...happy motoring.

Yep, they're a real pain in the a$$ to get off. I took my two center ones out to clean them, but for the two side ones, I was so over it, I used some large bottle brushes and a vacuum and got about 90% of what taking them out would have done. Not worth the hassle, IMO.
