R50/53 High Mileage MINI's?
>>>>Speaking about milage I now have 71,500 miles on my hot S. And baby this thing is flying. I have never owned a car that I have enjoyed more.

Randy, I believe the mileage was around 35 to 37k.

>>But I have friends with mid 1990's 3 series with 150,000 to 180,000mi, and the engines/transmissions are still solid  rwd I-6, tho, which helps...

Depends a lot on the person who takes car of it. I have seen several BMWs (thought about buying a used one a few years ago) that had just under 100K and they were pretty trashed. One I saw with only 120K looked and ran like it belonged in a junk year. On the other hand I've seen Hyundai's with over 100K that ran and looked great!
Rear wheel drive has nothing to do with the quality of the car.

I guess it's more about the driveline and engine design for long-term durability. My theory on rwd is the suspension/driveline forces are distributed more evenly to the rear of the car. Whereas a fwd: car has the power, majority of braking force, and
steering on one axle (well er two).
The three series is a long-term proven platform, I'm sure the Mini will go 100,000mi well cared for. Tho the "Drive it like you stole it" people will be interesting to see.
My policy is, tho, to not keep a car over 100,000mi or 5 years. Regardless. Tho I must say a "cruiser" like a Benz E class diesel is tempting... boring, tho...
That said, IMHO, few cars can compete with the level of style and fun a Mini has...

I'm not really gettin rid of mine, but I got it in July of 2002, and I now have about 40,000 miles, I thought it was a lot for the amount of time that i have owned it, but I guess not
JoeGreen just passed Inspection I with no problems although there have been a few minor technical difficulties -- new power brake booster and LMP but no stumble, cracks or squeaks. He's now close to 27K with six weeks until his first b.day. It's been a wonderful year of driving and have no intention of letting him go just yet. I REALLY love the silk green color so it would be hard to part with my rare gem.
Happy holidays to everyone .. LN
