How many Minis make it to the states annually? How many are out there on the road currently? Will Mini ever become ubiquitous and lose its uniqueness?

Nope, not for a long time. In most areas that lack a dealership or have only one dealership, the numbers in sales just simply are not enough for it to become common. You'd have to make 5 times more MINIs before they would be so common that people would be stumbling over each other in their MINIs.

Take Toyota Camry that is a good seller. Tons of them around and many 100,000 units sold every year in the US. Out of 6 homes on my cul de sac, 5 have Camry. Yuk. And my wife wanted a Camry but I got an MCS. How utterly boring.

Want to be ubiquitous and lack uniqueness? Buy Toyota.

From Toyota:

Quote:
Today, our more than 1,400 dealers have helped us achieve sales of more than one million Toyota and Lexus vehicles annually over the past 12 years. 2001 was Toyota's best year ever in America with sales totaling over 1.8 million vehicles.

MINI has some 70 dealers and about 35,000 in sales per year. Hard to imagine that being common. It's such a tiny fraction of total car sales.

The following from:
http://www.bridger.us/mini/search.ph...ing=mini+sales

As of 10/03:
MINI USA broke through the 50,000-unit sales threshold this month, with a total of 50,303 cars sold since MINI went on sale March 22, 2002.

Demand for MINI brand automobiles remains strong but due to production limitations and the model year changeover, MINI USA reported September sales of 2,295 automobiles-a decrease of 23 percent from the 2,967 cars reported in that month last year. Sales of MINI automobiles for the first nine months of 2003 totaled 25,720.

It is worth noting that day's-supply for MINI in September was the lowest it's been since launch, an unbelievable 4.5 days for September. Dealer inventory was 347, for an average of 5 cars per dealer.

And on classic mini sales through the years-
Here's some MINI trivia for everyone out there. Many of us are aware of the sales success that the new MINI has had over the past two years. However what would surprise most is that we're not even close to the yearly numbers that the Classic Mini enjoyed in it's heyday. For instance in 1973 alone the Classic Mini sold an astounding 343,000 units worldwide (except for of course the US where it wasn't being sold).

As expected that number diminished greatly by the 2000 model year (the last year of Classic Mini production) when just 12,000 were sold world wide. However it's safe to say with a total production since 1959 of over 5,400,000 the Classic Mini is firmly established in automotive history as one of the most successful vehicles of all time.

MINI sales already higher than for the whole of 2002
In October, MINI sales since the beginning of the year topped the 150,000 mark. In the period ending October with 151,570 MINI sold (prev.yr.: 120,080 / +26.2%), the sales level for the entire previous year, which was 144,120, has already been clearly exceeded ...
