The engine in the MINI is produced in a joint-venture facility between BMW and DaimlerChrysler. The 'Pentagon' design TRITEC 1600cc I4 engine is also used in non-US Dodge Neons and Chrysler PT Cruisers. The engine is controlled by a Siemens ECU. The transaxle in the Cooper is manufactured by BMW and the 6spd transaxle in the Cooper S is manufactured by Getrag.
