Are there differences in the replacement mirror/glass pieces... I.e. differences in model year or more obviously left to right??

Reason I ask, is that I just got my MINI back after being in a significant accident, the drivers side mirror was replaced (along with many many other parts).

Now my drivers side mirror is either concave or convex and very funky... makes me feel drunk when I look into it.

The bodyshop will be getting the car back, to fix multiple things, including the mirror.

Just curious as to what the right part # is, and if there is a difference...

2003 Mini Cooper S Manual

 

I bought some "Birds Eye Mirrors" glass, which go over the factory glass. Moss sells a left and a right seperately, each one $34.95. I put on the passenger side, and it helps, 'cause the glass is slightly bent, giving more vision. After a few beers, I put on the driver side, BUT the wrong way. It had a weird look, like I was in a "Fun House". Luckily, I removed it before the tape got too sticky! Anyways, I never put it back on. BUT, back to your story, maybe they put one of those on instead of the $54 glass from the dealer...??? And the correct part # for a non-heated mirror glass is 51167058061; and a 51167058063 for a heated mirror glass, for the drivers side.

 

In the US all MINI oem mirrors are all the same other than heated and non-heated. And a "convex" mirror on passenger side that says "Things may appear closer than they are" and a flat 1:1 aspect ratio mirror for driver's side. Many people buy aftermarket stick-on "convex" or "aspherical" mirror like Leapfrog did, I suspect the shop just chose to get aftermarket "convex" replacements that go on oem backing plate. I doubt the shop got oem "convex" driver's side mirror.

There is oem "convex" driver's side mirrors available in euro spec only, recently dealer's here had tough time obtaining them although some people did get them here. There is also an oem "aspherical" split mirror for German market and a passenger's side oem "aspherical" mirror for Asian market.
