Steering Wheel Buttons?

I was reading a book about how they designed the 1st Genertion Mini. There is a picture showing buttons on the rear of the right side of the cross piece on the steering wheel. My friend has a 1st Gen MC and said they are not there on his. What were they for??

Steering Wheel Buttons?

The Multi-Function Steering Wheel option, available on the two spoke wheel,
had the radio control buttons on the back of the crossbar.

This MFSW feature was discontinued and most of the buttons functions, volume control and station selection
but not mode selection, were moved to the front of the wheel with the introduction of the three spoke wheel.

Hope this helps...

Thanks. Not really having had much contact with the 1st Generation cars I was just interested.
