R50/53 when to replace clutch?
when to replace clutch?
most cars ive owned since new so its quite easy for me to tell when its time for a clutch
ive had my 2006 R53 since march 09 with 23K miles, since then ive managed to put about 20K miles in about 6 months i have about 40K miles now
is it about due for a clutch now?
reason i ask is because on the Mini's do the clutches feel like they slip even tho they are good as new? and why is the friction point so high?
and please provide recomendatons on clutch for a car that will be slightly modded (pulley, intake, headers, exh, injectors, cams and a tune)
thank you!
edit: didnt want to start a new thread for this, since we are on the subject - how many quarts of MTL does our transmission take?

I have 57k on my clutch and not even thinking about needing a change yet.
Unless you are slipping there is not reason to change. To check for slip get your car up to speed on the interstate in 6th on a level road. Try to accelerate WOT. If the RPM increase more than the speed you may need a clutch soon. If not you are fine.
The 6 speed needs two liters of MTL for a fluid change.

If is not slipping, no need to worry about it. I recently had mine apart at 51k, it measured within spec, flywheel looked great.
You can use 2qts of REDLINE® MTL TRANSMISSION FLUID
My clutch went out on me at 67k, but I'm pretty sure the original owner was pretty rough on the car before I bought it. I agree that you shouldn't replace it until it starts going bad. When you do replace it I'd definatley recomend the Clutchmasters fx300, the pedal feel is similar to stock with just a slightly different engagement point
thanx for the info, i guess ill do a fluid change first, and hope that helps, is there anyway to adjust the friction point to make it a bit lower?
