I have an 04 MCS, on the dash is a button I THOUGHT was the cruise control. The button looks like it has a picture of a gauge that you would set the cruise control for...but I have the cruise control on my steering wheel. When I press the button, it doesn't light up. I thought it would turn my cruise control off after it is engaged, but it doesn't do that either. I have had my MINI a year, and cannot figure out what this button does on the dash. Also...does anyone know how the gas tank locks? Bc when I lock the car with the remote, the gas tank lid def. does not lock... confusion confusion!

 

Opposite the hazard button by the speedo? That's the dash backlight adjustment.

 

Do you mean the instrument cluster light level adjuster? You have press it 5 or 6 times so that you would see the effect...

The button is on the left of the chrono pack where the ring (#2) goes.

 

Well, I think the button is either the (a) instrument lighting or (b) hazard warning flashers. Hitting the instrument lighting button several times cycles through the brightness of the dash so you don't really notice anything during the day and if you don't have the car lights on. I think page 12 of the manual should illustrate the button's use.

As for the gas cap, it should lock when the car is locked. When I bought my 04 Mini last year, the first time I went to fill it up, I was frantically looking for the gas cap release like I had in my old Acura. But I figured out that the cap unlocked when I turned the car off and opened the driver's door.

 

AHHH, THE DASH LIGHTS...I'M SO GONNA LOOK INTO THAT. I DID LOOK IN THE MANUEL AND COULD FIND NOTHING. THANKS SO MUCH!
