OIL CHANGE SETTINGS ON MPH TACH

On the MPH tachometer, does anyone know how to reset the thing that tells me when I need to change my oil? I have never been able to figure it out, and have already changed the oil a few times but can't figure out how to reset it. It now says i'm overdue for an oilchange -6000 miles. Someone had told me I need to go to the MINI dealer to get them to reset it...i'm lost, and there's nothing in the manuel. HELP!!

You can find an article on how to reset the Oil Counter here.

I'm not sure I have it completely right, but here goes:

If it's an R56, push your key in the slot, and WITHOUT pushing in the clutch or brake pedal, hit the start button to turn on the ignition without starting the car. As soon as the warning lights stop flashing on the OBC (about 3 seconds), push in and HOLD the trip mileage button until a new menu appears on the OBC. Then use the usual method to move between the menu options (push in the end of the turn signal stem) until the oil can icon is visible. Then HOLD it in until it resets. Turn the ignition off and remove the key from the slot. Wait a minute or so, then start the car to see if you got it right.

Edit: Oops, my bad. I didn't notice you posted in the 1st gen section. a mind is a terrible thing to waste!

hmmm ... I can't access the link so maybe you can't either.

Here is how to reset the oil service light:

1) Press and hold the trip button
2) Insert key and turn to position 1
3) Watch for RESET to appear
4) Release the button, then press & hold it again
5) Wait for the RESET to flash
6) Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
7) Service interval should then be reset to next interval

++++++++++

- this process is very sensative to the 'timing' of the presses. I usually do it 4 times or more b4 it "takes"

- the prompts on the display are unintelligable. I just look for the display to change . . .

- this isn't in the owner's manual but is in the Haynes (and presumably the Bentley)

- next interval changes .... there is a pattern but I don't remember it.
